There are few things more frustrating than ordering a beautiful ring online and discovering it doesn't fit. This guide gives you three at-home methods to find your exact ring size — using nothing more than a piece of string, a ruler, or a ring you already own. Plus a few pro tips from our studio to get it right the first time.
Before You Measure: 3 Quick Rules
- Measure at the end of the day. Fingers swell slightly in the evening; this gives you the most accurate, comfortable size.
- Measure at room temperature. Cold fingers are smaller. A ring sized in winter morning will feel too loose by July afternoon.
- Account for knuckle size. If your knuckle is significantly bigger than your finger base, you'll need a half-size up so the ring slides over the knuckle comfortably.
Method 1: The String or Paper Strip Method
What you'll need: A piece of non-stretchy string, dental floss, or a thin strip of paper. A ruler with millimetre markings. A pen.
- Wrap the string snugly around the base of the finger you want to size. Not tight — it should sit comfortably the way a ring would.
- Mark the point where the string overlaps with a pen.
- Lay the string flat against the ruler and measure the distance from the start to the mark in millimetres.
- That measurement is the inner circumference of your ring size.
- Match the number to our size chart below.
Method 2: The Existing Ring Method
What you'll need: A ring that already fits the finger you want to size. A ruler with millimetre markings.
- Lay the ring flat on a table.
- Measure the inner diameter of the ring across the widest point in millimetres.
- Match the diameter to our size chart below.
Pro tip: Make sure the existing ring fits the same finger you're sizing. Your right ring finger is usually slightly larger than your left.
Method 3: The Printable Sizer
We have a printable ring sizer available on our Size Guide page. Print it at 100% scale (no "fit to page"), then slide each ring template over your finger until you find one that fits snugly but slides over the knuckle comfortably.
The Blinglane Ring Size Chart (India + International)
| India Size | Inner Diameter (mm) | Inner Circumference (mm) | US Size | UK Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 14.0 | 44.0 | 3 | F |
| 8 | 14.8 | 46.5 | 4 | H |
| 10 | 15.7 | 49.3 | 5 | J½ |
| 12 | 16.5 | 51.9 | 6 | L½ |
| 13 | 16.9 | 53.1 | 6½ | M½ |
| 14 | 17.3 | 54.4 | 7 | N½ |
| 15 | 17.7 | 55.7 | 7½ | O½ |
| 16 | 18.1 | 57.0 | 8 | P½ |
| 17 | 18.5 | 58.3 | 8½ | Q½ |
| 18 | 18.9 | 59.5 | 9 | R½ |
| 20 | 19.8 | 62.1 | 10 | T½ |
| 22 | 20.6 | 64.6 | 11 | V½ |
Note: This chart is indicative. Ring fit also varies by band width — wider bands feel snugger than thin bands at the same size.
Stack Ring & Wide Band Sizing
If you're buying a wide band (4mm or wider) or planning to stack multiple rings on the same finger, size up by half a size. Wide bands cover more surface area on the finger and feel tighter than thin bands of the same numerical size.
What If You're Between Sizes?
If you fall between two sizes, our rule of thumb is:
- Round up for warm climates (Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi summers), wide bands, or knuckles larger than your finger base
- Round down for cooler climates, thin bands, and even-knuckle fingers
